Inspired by ‘s sweet-looking calico, I present to you all for your viewing pleasure, Opal, Smokey, and Rose. I took care of these cats 3 days a week for three and a half years. We got bonds, baby! Yes, they are named after crystals. Yes, it is a metaphysical bookstore. It has magickal necessities, and books, or course about magick and metaphysical studies. We also had a decent Indigenous Studies room - but all of this is beside the point. The point is, I love these cats as if they were my own (as happens with most cats I come across - but, like I said, bonds baby.
They live in the shop, almost throughout the year. Sometimes, someone will take them home, weather-depending. Opal - may fave - is a beautiful calico. Her personality is playful and warm. She is a cuddler, and usually stays in the managers offices, although she will make an appearance on the floor. She is the piggiest of the three, in terms of food. She was always sitting right next to me as I prepared each of their food for the morning and night. She would purr and paw at me. She always got the biggest portion (Sorry Smokey and Rose.)
Smokey was a bitch!! He was always chasing the other two around the store. pouncing unexpectedly from behind the cloaks, or a large amethyst geode. He Is the grey and white kitty and he lives to torture (okay, play may be a better word) his sisters. He got the second largest portion of breakfast and dinner. Both Opal and Smokey rarely had to be found, as once they heard the pop of the top of the cat food can, and got a whiff of the aroma, they were somewhere near where they knew their bowls could be found.
Bringing up the rear Is Rose. She has the light brown fur around her eye and the rest of her body. She is a chonk. Like serious. People ask if she is preggers, and I would have to be like no she is just big boned lol aka fat. She is a chonk, but is otherwise healthy. She gets chased by the other two, mainly Smokey, who loves to play with her. She gets so upset, but the same song and dance occurred every morning. While waiting for their food, Opal was was watching me, and Smokey was chasing Rose. When ii came time to eat, Rose was the finickiest of all three, and would sometimes eat a quarter of her food, leaving it for scavengers like Smokey.. Now, don’t get it twisted, Opal would take every chance she could get to get extra nom noms; really, though, it was Smokey.
I love these kitties with all of my soul. I need to go back before I have my surgery so, I can get a dose of kitties. It does the body good. About now, you, dear friends, are probably wondering why I just don’t get a kitty or two? Well, the answer to that is Nyx. Our pug. Ugh, it is kind of funny that our pug has the same digestive diseases as both me and egg. He has Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and Crohn’s disease, and Pica, just like - you guessed it. Me!!!f While I do not eat rocks, glass, holly leaves (which are highly toxic to dogs), Nyx does. I eat toilet paper (clean, of course) and other types of paper and ice, It is an indication that my anemia is back and strong. Right now, I am so anemic that my docs are monitoring, but not anemic enough (1 point off) from being able to get iv iron infusions. But Nyx, oh boy, Nyx will eat anything he can get his little mouth on. All the things mentioned above, and just about anything you can think of. He would take my Adderall if I dropped it and was not fast enough to pick it up. When he goes outside to use the bathroom, he has to where a muzzle, and looks like Hannibal Lecter. Anyway, when he was a baby, he ate glass and rocks, and perforated his intestines. He had to exploratory surgery, and had to be patched back up. 8000$ for a puppy not yet 1 years old is expensive. We have Nyx-proofed our place, and he only has access to certain parts. He is only 19 pound (of cinder block) so we can transport him rather easy.
But back to the story. Having Nyx precludes us from having kitties. First of all, the possible fights. The next thing is that since Nyx is very orally fixated, he would eat cat food, cat litter, cat dust bunnies, cat everything; in addition to eating his own food, he comes to us when sit down to eat, circling out feet for any morsels that may fall his way. All this to say - Nyx is preventing me from getting a kitty. Egg made me promise to wait until Nyx crosses the Rainbow Bridge. He is 5 (will be 6 in Feb), so that is a potential for another TEN YEARS without a kitty. Something will have to give. I don’t think I can wait that long!!! I need kitty energy damnit, and I don’t care who knows it!!!!
I am dropping some pics below!! Enjoy!!

If you would like to upgrade to a paid subscription, me, Nyx, and Egg would be happy. If not, maybe consider buying me a tea.
